Waist-to-Hip Ratio Calculator
Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) describes where your body stores fat. A higher ratio — more weight around the middle — is associated with greater health risk than fat stored elsewhere.

How this works
WHR = waist circumference ÷ hip circumference. The World Health Organization uses these adult cutoffs for abdominal obesity:
- Men: WHR above 0.90 indicates increased risk
- Women: WHR above 0.85 indicates increased risk
WHR is useful alongside BMI because it captures fat distribution — two people with the same BMI can carry fat very differently. Abdominal (central) fat is more strongly linked to certain health risks than fat stored on the hips and thighs.
Medical disclaimer: WHR is a general screening measure of fat distribution, not a diagnosis. Discuss your individual risk with a healthcare professional.
