About MeasureUp
MeasureUp is a small set of free health calculators. I built it because most of the calculators floating around the web are either full of ads, hidden behind sign-ups, or quietly using formulas they don't tell you about.
How we choose our formulas
Every calculator on this site is built on a published, citable formula rather than our own opinion:
- BMI — the World Health Organization's body mass index definition and category bands.
- BMR and TDEE — the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (Mifflin et al., 1990), the most widely used predictive equation for resting metabolic rate.
- Target heart rate — the Karvonen formula, a standard method for exercise heart-rate zones.
- Ideal weight — the Devine formula (1974), a long-established clinical estimate.
- Water intake and macros — widely used general guidelines, clearly labeled as starting points rather than medical requirements.
Each calculator page states its formula and its limitations in plain language, so you can see exactly where a number comes from.
What these tools are — and are not
These are general wellness estimates for healthy adults. They are not medical devices, diagnoses, or treatment recommendations. They do not replace a conversation with a doctor, dietitian, or other qualified professional. If you have a health condition, are pregnant, or are under 18, please seek individualized guidance.
Privacy by design
All calculations run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. We do not collect, store, or transmit the numbers you enter — there is nothing to send, because the math happens on your device. Our Privacy Policy explains this in detail.
