How this works

The US Navy method estimates body fat from circumference measurements using equations developed by Hodgdon and Beckett (1984). It was designed to be quick and consistent without specialized equipment.

For accurate measurements, keep the tape level and snug but not compressing. Measure the neck below the larynx, the waist at the navel (relaxed), and the hips at their widest point.

Typical accuracy is within roughly ±3–5 percentage points of laboratory methods for most people, but it is less reliable for very lean or very muscular individuals.

Medical disclaimer: Body fat percentage is an estimate, not a diagnosis. It does not measure health directly. Consult a professional for health-related concerns.
