Retype a heading that arrived in capitals, or settle a draft into one style. Capitalization is mechanical; the words that shouldn't change are not.

Which mode to pick

Sentence case capitalizes the first letter after a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark, and lowercases everything else. It is the safe reset for a paragraph pasted in capitals.

Title case capitalizes each significant word and leaves articles and short prepositions down — a common convention for headings, though not the only one. Lower case and upper case do exactly what they say.

What will look wrong afterwards

Acronyms collapse: NASA becomes Nasa, an iPhone becomes an Iphone, and SQL loses the shape that made it readable. Initials in names and the “I” pronoun in lower case both need a manual fix.

Sentence detection is punctuation-based, so a quoted sentence, an abbreviation such as “Dr.” or a line break can trigger a capital where none belongs. Read the output; the converter cannot read it for you.

Code, file paths, URLs and quoted titles should usually be left out of the conversion entirely.
