The register exists so that any photograph on the site can be traced back to the place it came from. Each entry names the page or article the image appears on, the photographer credited for it, and the license the file is used under, which is why the lists are grouped by license rather than by page order. Some files also carry a short subject note describing what the photograph shows, so a replacement can be found if the original is ever withdrawn.

Two fields do most of the work. The attribution link points at the original source, so a reader can confirm the license and see the file in its own context. The page or article name ties that source to the exact spot the image occupies, which matters because the same photograph could otherwise be reused in several places without anyone being able to tell which use is being described. Where a file comes from a source that states its own license terms, those terms are recorded beside the entry instead of being replaced by a general site-wide statement.

The register is updated whenever an image is added, swapped, or removed, and a caption that no longer matches its page is treated as a correction rather than a cosmetic detail. Photographs are stored and served from the site itself, so the source named in an entry describes where the file originated, not a live link that the page depends on. Anyone who holds rights in a photograph listed here can use the contact route to raise it, and a disputed entry is corrected or the file replaced rather than argued about.
